MONTREAL SPICED BEEF SANDWICH

Just what you need after a long day of work. Prepare more and bring for lunch box the next day.

  • 600 g sirloin steaks, fat trimmed
  • 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 1/4 tsp all spice
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/4 tsp ground cumin
  • 1/2 tsp ground coriander
  • 1/4 tsp mustard powder
  • 8 slices rye bread
  • 1 ripe avocado, mashed
  • squeeze of lemon juice
  • 1 grated carrot
  • 1 small grated beetroot
  • Lettuce, cucumber pickles and mustard, to serve

Method

Instructions

1. Place steaks on a large plate and brush with oil. Combine spices in a small bowl with salt and pepper and sprinkle evenly over both sides of the steaks.

2. Preheat a bbq or char grill pan until very hot. Cook steaks for 2-3 minutes on the first side and 2 minutes on the second side for medium rare. Rest, slice thinly.

3. Assemble sandwiches with one piece of the rye spread with mustard, the other topped with mashed avocado seasoned with lemon juice, salt and pepper. Top with lettuce, carrot, beetroot, cucumber pickles and beef.
